Hopkins Center for the Performing Arts

Hopkins Center for the Creative and Performing Arts at Dartmouth College, is situated at Wheelock Street in Hanover, New Hampshire. It is the cultural hub of the college and is the home to the drama, music, film, and studio arts departments. Beside these, the Hopkins Center, or the “Hop” as it is called by its students, has a wood shop and jewelery studio which are open for use by students as well as the public.

When you enter the Hopkins Center you will find Faulkner Recital Hall, Spaulding Auditorium, Warner Bentley Theater, The Moore Theater, and Alumni Hall. These are mainly used for student performances, concerts and plays by visiting artists, and alumni and faculty meetings. Various student groups like Dartmouth Dance Ensemble, the Glee Club, the Barbary Coast Jazz Ensemble, the Wind Symphony, and the Symphony Orchestra perform here on a regular basis.

One of the chief attraction of the Hopkins Center is its Courtyard Café, a popular destination for students and community members. In nice weather condition, it is a good experience to sit outside in the landscape courtyard for a meal. You can find delicious made-to-order platters from the grill, as well as snacks, sandwiches, soups, and burritos at the Cafe.

On special occasions in Hopkins Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, various events are held at a spot called the “Top of the Hop.” This is situated on the second floor of the center.

When you walk through the museum, you can visit the Hood's Museum of Art store, located just next to the Courtyard Café..Hood Museum of Art is the North America's oldest museum. There are both permanent collections and visiting exhibitions. You can enjoy a movie show at the Arthur M. Loew Auditorium, situated beneath the museum.
