The Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion was named after Benning Wentworth, the first royal governor of Hampshire. Wentworth Coolidge Mansion is the former home of Benning Wentworth, who served the office from 1741 to 1767. This marvelous 40-room mansion is one of the most outstanding homes remaining of the colonial era. The aristocratic life in Portsmouth in the 1700s is well reflected through its grandeur, stateliness and impressive interior.

Five distinct periods of architecture is reflected in the Mansion. The intricate hand-carved mantelpiece shows the outstanding skill of New Hampshire's eighteenth century craftsmanship .The daily life of the people and the government activities during the colonial period is revealed through the council chamber and the spy closet. The grounds is decorated by the Purple lilacs.
You can visit the Coolidge Visitor Center, located on the grounds. The grounds and the Visitor Center are available on rent for various events and meetings. Restrooms are available in the carriage house.
- Days and Timings for Guided Tours
The Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion is open for guided tours from June 27 to September 2, 2007. Wednesday – Saturday: 10:00 & 11:30am, and 12:45, 2:00, & 3:00pm
Sunday: 1:00, 2:30 and 3:45pm.
From September 7, the Mansion will be open for tours on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 12:00, 1:30 & 3:00pm till October 7.

Children of 5 and below and NH residents of 65 and over are admitted free.
For groups of ten or more, special charges and timings may be availed.
The Coolidge Center for the Arts Gallery, another place of tourist attraction, is open from May 20 to September 30, 2007. Admission to the Coolidge Arts Gallery is free. The Gallery is open from Wednesday-Saturday from10:00am-4:00pm. On Sundays the Gallery remains open from 1:00-5:00pm. Special timing may be sought by appointment with the Gallery Director, Dody Kolb.
